Location of Lewis Hills
land and Norman Hills land based upon the legal descriptions in Lewis's
original deed of 24 September 1836 (Lot 3, Range 13, Twp 5) and Norman B. Hill's deed of 28 December
1836 (Lot 60, Range 12, Twp 5). The image is a plot using OziExplorer
on a composite of the Brocton
and Hartfield
1 meter Orthophotos from the New
York State Interactive Mapping Gateway. A plot of the land on a highway
map of the area is also available.

These
maps of Chautauqua county show that Lot
3, Range 13, Twp 5 (Portland) was immediately to the west of Lot 60, Range 12,
Twp 5 (Pomfret). Some old records show that Lewis Hells (spelled
"Hells" not "Hills") first owned land within Lot 3 in
1816. This is almost certainly the same person as Lewis Hills.
