A. Jay Hayward
was married to Marion Alice Brown
(she went by the name "Alice") on 1885-02-22 by Geo. W. Taylor with
Anna B. Taylor as a witness.
Jay Hayward's parents were Asa Kirby Hayward and Harriet A. Ticknor.
Asa Kirby Hayward was enumerated as simply as "Kirby
Hayward" in the 1880 census, so he probably went by that name rather
than Asa. Alice
(Marion Alice Brown) was one of the six children
of Elisha Brown and Marion Hills and therefore Will Brown's sister. (See Walter
Brown below.)
Anirah Agnes Hayward (known as "Nina") was Jay and Alice's
daughter. Nina was given the middle name of Agnes after her Aunt, Agnes Susan
Brown.
Nina Hayward and Marion Brown (Will Brown's daughter) were very good
friends, as well as cousins.
Marion Brown loved the Hayward family very much.
The other children of Jay and Alice included: Hazel, Beth, Thurston S.
and Walter Brown.
Hazel taught school at District #3 on the Cattaraugus Reservation.
Nina was married to Samuel Cameron Morehead on 1916-12-28 by Rev. R. H.
Fairburn and witnessed by A. J. Hayward and Nettie Hayward.
Nettie was Jay Hayward's second wife; Nettie was born a
"Hawley" and her first husband's surname was "Titus".
Nina eventually moved to Ohio near the same location where the Will Brown
family had moved in 1906.
Nina and Sam are buried in Tallmadge, Ohio. Alice died 1895-12-05.
Jay died 1924-10-26. Both are interred at Versailles Cemetery, Versailles,
NY.

Stephen
Jeffrey is thought to have been born 13-Feb-1827, although his headstone
shows 1826 as his birth date. There is also a plethora of evidence showing
that his surname was spelled "Jeffrey", despite the fact that it
appears as "Jeffery" on his headstone. Stephen lived in
Versailles, most of his live and and traveled to Sunnyside, Yakima County, Washington
to visit his son, Eulice, for the winter of '03-'04. According to his
obituary, he died at midnight on 24-APR-1904 while in Sunnyside. He is
buried at Sunnyside Cemetery, Yakima County, Washington. The photo on the
right was taken in November 2002 by a Randon Acts of
Genealogical Kindness volunteer (who I won't name in public here).
Many thanks to her for doing this! The centre of the cemetery is located
at N46°20.802' W120°0.624' (WGS84). The exact location of Stephen's grave is
not known. The reverse side of the postcard on the bottom was written by
Eulice Ray Jeffrey to his sister Maude Brown, nee Jeffrey.
