Shaffer
Joshua Shaffer (b. 1840 at East Palestine, Columbiana
County, Ohio) and Sarah V. Sherer (b. 24-OCT-1800 near Mt. Jackson, Lawrence
County, Ohio, d. 11-MAR-1886 at Canton, Ohio) were the parents of Nancy Jane
Shaffer (b. 1-SEP-1836 in Columbiana County, Ohio, d. 16-FEB-1887 at Canton,
Ohio). Nancy Jane Shaffer married Mathew
Elder Meek. Note that there are many variations in the spelling of
this family's surname, including: Schaefer, Schaeffer, Shaeffer and Shaffer.

This Note
for $3.50 plus 78¢ interest is dated Sept. 22d 1839. The receipt
for $4.28 by the Administrator for the estate of Joshua Shaffer is dated May 3d
1844. The actual document has been kept over the years and is part of the
Erbland / Brown family history collection.

Certified Copy of a Bond posted by Sarah Schaefer and
Daniel Bowl, of Columbiana County, Ohio, on 23-MAR-1846, was obtained by Donald
Erbland during his family his research. The first two pages shown here are the certification by the Columbiana County Clerk's office that the text shown on the final page is a true and accurate copy of the original Bond.
The third page is a copy of the Bond text, which has been transcribed
here.. The children who are the subject of this guardianship Bond include Nancy Shaeffer (also spelled Shaffer), who later in life married
Mathew Elder Meek. The Bond was issued after the death of the children's father, Joshua Shaffer (b. Beaver County Pennsylvania, d. 1840 at East Palestine, Columbiana County, Ohio.)
