Weapons and Photos of War
Terry Brown's Collection

Terry Will Brown was very interested in collecting military weapons and memorabilia. He served in WWI but his collection of military items was from WWII and earlier.  His collection included, swords, flare pistols, covert weapons like pens and walking canes that shot 22 cal shells, helmets, bayonets, rifles, artillery shells, flint lock guns and much more.  After Terry's death, his wife, Ruth Brown (nee Kimble), sold the collection to various other collectors.. Since Terry was also an avid photographer, some of his war photos were passed on to me.  The images on this page are a representative sample of the items he collected and the photographs that he had saved.

Terry's non-military photos are here

The Brêteau family are people who Terry Will Brown met while he was serving as a mess sergeant with the U.S. Army in France during World War One.  Shown L to R in this photo are: Yvonne Brêteau, Madeleine Brêteau and Robert Brêteau with their mother Marie Brêteau sitting in front.  This WWI era postcard was kept amoung Terry's paper's.  The information written on the card reads "Breteau family / Left to right / Yvanne / Robert / Madeline / Madam / 142 Rue National / Le Mans / Sarthe / Fr".  Terry also kept other information related to this family, so he must have developed quite a friendship with them.

Flare Pistols and other military memorabilia were one of Terry's favourite collections. He had one of the most extensive collections of flare pistols in existence.  After his death, his gun collection was sold but a few photos of portions of his collection remain.  These images, which Terry photographed himself, show some of his flare pistols.

Some flare pistols from Terry Brown's collection of military memorabilia.

Two soldiers who appear to be getting read to fire a weapon.  The print of this photo is badly damaged.  The white spots in the image is where the print surface has eroded over time.

These dead bodies look like they are dressed in civilian clothes.  Hand-printed on the photos is the caption "BEAT TO DEATH AND STACKED UP".  I do not know the circumstances surrounding this image.
