Wooster, Wayne County Donald
Erbland and his wife, Marion (nee Brown) and their three children (Donna, Marsha
and Mardon) moved to Wooster, Wayne County, Ohio from North Canton, Ohio in
1946. Donald's employer, The East Ohio Gas Company, had reassigned him to their
Wooster production and storage office. The family lived at 730 Forest Dr. until
the children were grown, at which time Donald and Marion moved to 1644 Barbara
Dr., which they owned until their deaths. Donald was actually reassigned
to the North Canton Office of East Ohio Gas in the late 1940s but the family
never left Wooster and Donald commuted to North Canton as part of a car pool of
East Ohio employees who lived in Wooster. One of the men,
Fritz Gimbel, eventually died of natural causes during one of the commutes.

The public
square at Wooster as it appeared in the 19th century is shown in the
photo below. The exact date of this photo is unknown. The source
copy of this image is part of the Erbland family photo collection. It is not
known how or why this image came to be a part of the Erbland photos, since it
predates by half a century or more, the Erblands' arrival in Wooster in
1946. Proceeding clockwise from the left side of the photo, the signs that
are readable include:

The East
Ohio Gas Co. production and storage office was moved from North Canton
to Wooster in 1946. These two images show some of the men who worked at
the office. They include: M.L. Taylor, M.S. Burt, Okey Wheeler, Earl M. Cowan, Kenneth
Gray, Clyde Myers, Fritz Gimbel, Don Erbland and Latan Sloatz (or Staats?). Both
of the source photographs were take on 20-JUN-1946. They
are standing in front of the EOG production and storage office that was located
at approximately N40º
47.724' W081º57.171' (WGS84). By apparent coincidence, Donald Erbland's
wedding anniversary was on the day that this picture was taken. Donald & Marion
Erbland (nee Brown) were married 20-JUN-1929.
